To Rome with Love is an American sitcom that aired on CBS from September 1969 to September 1971.
Following his wife's death, Michael Endicott moved with his three daughters from Iowa to Rome, Italy, to teach at the American Overseas School. His sister, Harriet, briefly joined them before returning to Iowa. In the second season, Michael's father-in-law, Andy Pruitt, visited from Iowa, having sold his farm, and took up residence in their apartment.
Professor Mike Endicott's sister, Harriet, visits and is dismayed by Penny's arrest and strangers using their bathroom. Urging Mike to move his daughters back to Iowa, Harriet reconsiders after he showcases the appealing aspects of their Roman life.
Alice, a tourist, mistakes Mike Endicott for Italian, and he plays along, unaware of the romantic complications to come. He woos the charming American teacher with dinner and dancing, then struggles to reveal his deception.
Aunt Harriet struggles to impose American customs on her family and neighborhood. Tonight's episode features touching farewells as she prepares to leave the Endicotts. The goodbye scenes with the children are particularly poignant, and her struggles with the language barrier at the market evoke sympathy. Meanwhile, she attracts the attention of an Italian admirer.
Lacking a phone, the Endicotts relied on the grocer's. Gino then contacted a distant relative in the phone company, and miraculously, the Endicotts got their own line. The consequence? Overuse by neighbors and a disgruntled grocer with a neglected phone.
