After moving to a new home in Indiana, eleven year old aspiring cartoonist Nick Martin and his animated friend, McGee, learn lessons relating to growing up and morality.
Nick is new in town and on his first day at school he runs into the school bully. Hoping to make friends and get off to a good start, he tells a lie to impression the other kids. Nick and McGee discover that telling lies is not a convenient way to make friends. Instead, it's a sure way to hurt others.
Nick and his cartoon pal McGee learn a lesson in humility when the fame and popularity of being on a game show goes to Nick's head.
Nick's parents won't let him spend his Saturday afternoon going to a horror movie that "everybody else" is going to see. He sneaks off to see to see the flick with his friend Louis, but ends up regretting it.
After trying to protect a geeky boy, Philip, from Derrick, Nick finds himself in a skateboarding contest, even though he isn't that good at it. He practices, but on the day of the race, Derrick's friends try to sabotage it. However, Nick's friends notice and even though he loses the race, they disqualify Derrick and so he does end up winning. He learns about cheating, practice, friendship, and standing up for others.
Nick and his friends, hanging out while Nick's parents are gone, deal with the news of an impending twister as they deal with fear and faith in God.
Nick and Todd, both talented artists, compete for a coveted spot and reward in a contest. Neither win, but both learn the meaning of good sportsmanship and fair competition.
Nick and the others learn another life lesson on making wise decisions, especially when Nick was planning on buying a new drawing table before settling on a sketch pad.
Nick is on a baseball team, the Braves, coached by his father. It is important to them to win the game against their biggest rival, the Dodgers. And they think it is in the bag this year because of Thurman Miller, the teams biggest and best player.
It's Christmastime and Nick is doing everything he can to take part in it, including being a Wiseman in the Christmas pageant. Nick tries to help his troubled classmate Derrick understand the meaning of the season.
