Follows a young married couple who see their livelihoods threatened when the government starts enforcing restrictive fishing quotas after they build a small fishing empire in a village.
Jón Hjaltalín, the mayor of a small West Iceland town, and Torfi, his brother, decide to buy an old trawler and start fishing. When the bank men arrive from Reykjavík to sign the contract, not everything goes to plan.
A year later, the whole country is in a state of paralysis due to the fishermen's strike. Harpa and Grímur are between a rock and a hard place and have to choose between going on strike or drowning in debt.
The couple, together with Jón Hjaltalín, take steps to adapt the quota system to their needs. Meanwhile, the battle for fish ownership continues in the municipality.
Smári, an investigative journalist from Reykjavík, works on an article about Harpa and searches for clues about her links to Jón Hjaltalín.
Harpa and Grímur secure a meeting with the prime minister in the hope of securing more quota to keep their company going. Tinna returns to town with her own agenda.
Harpa and Grímur's marriage is in crisis. While they work through their problems, Harpa sends Einar and Freydís into the countryside on the lookout for smaller boats for sale. Smári still has Harpa under a microscope.
The team meet up to tie up loose ends over a few too many drinks.
The town is in uproar after the latest events and all eyes are on Harpa. At the same time, Smári comes onto the scene.
