FUNG is a famous geomancer of the Sung Dynasty. But knowing of his own hard life, he expects his son LAI to become a mandarin, despite his own desire of being a geomancer. LAI and CHING CHING are lovers. Nevertheless, their families are at feud after FUNG helps the villagers to break the 'Fung Shui' of her brother MAN's casino. Their relationship is further dampened when FUNG refuses to help MAN to find his father a 'mandarin tomb', since FUNG knows that MAN would never be a good mandarin. LAI secretly goes to visit CHING CHING, but is unfortunately got hold of by MAN. MAN threatens to bring LAI to court if FUNG still refuses to comply with his request.
